Day 6 (May 21st) : Xiamen Hospital

6th Day

On the sixth day, we went to the First affiliated hospital of Xiamen University.  A student named Zirong Ye accompanied us to the first affiliated hospital of Xiamen University.  According to the doctor there, the hospital is said to be the largest hospital in the city of Xiamen.  When we went in, doctors and nurses guided the facilities of the hospital.

Above the picture is the online service for Chinese patients.  The steps to online service were given to all the patients.  Also, nurses were in the duty station.  So, systems were set up to fully attend to the patients.

Up above is B trying out online service with nurse’s instruction.

Also, we have been many other facilities including children’s facility, MRI station, and doctor’s office.  All of the equipments and facilities were advanced and were in place to identify and help cure patients.  Unfortunately, I couldn’t take many pictures due to privacy and confidentiality of patients.

After the hospital, we went to elder’s house.  First, I thought elder’s houses were like gathering place for elders.  However, when I arrived, it was more like nursing home for elders.  So, I realized the word elder’s houses are more serious.  Also, according to the director, 90% of the elders still lived with families due to culture.  However, there has been a lot incident where elders are more exposed to danger as normal families cannot attend to them 24/ 7.  Therefore the director expressed the need for Elders’ house.

Inside the elder’s house, there were many facilities for the elders that includes dental service, medical service, minimal surgical room and a dining hall.  Also, to my knowledge, there were two doctors and several nurses that could help with the elders.  So personally, I thought it was a good facility where elders could live with capable hands.
