On the seventh day, we went to Gu Lang Yu,
which is an island nearby Xiamen. We were accompanied by a student named Chen
Juh and Professor Hong’s cousin Hong Yu.
Also, we went to Gu Lang Yu island with a tour guide Mimi. According to Mimi, Gu Lang Yu island is the
third largest island in the coast of Xiamen.
There are about 20,000 people living in Gu Lang Yu island. It is one of the most famous place for
tourists in Xiamen.
To go to Gu Lang Yu island, we went to Dongdu international Terminal and rode a boat for a 20 minutes. After walking a little bit in Gu Lang Yu Island, we noticed that the streets and environments were antiquated. We could tell that buildings and streets were really old. From Xiamen island, it was a totally different scene.

After getting into the main house in Gu
Lang Yu island, we saw a Chinese doll play and Chinese traditional
concert. The dolls are really well
played by the experts. The animals and
people (dolls) in the play felt alive and the story was easy to understand. Also, the Chinese traditional music was great
as it had unique sound apart from today’s musical instrument. As it was first time for me seeing it, it was
a great experience for me.
The picture below is the statue of
goddess in Xiamen area. According to
Mimi, this goddess has two different features: Women’s head and Men’s
body. Long ago, it was people belief
that deity were composed of both male and male characteristics.
Also, we visited the center for mother of
infants.
Lastly, we went to piano museum. There were hundreds of pianos from early
1900s. According to Mimi, Gu Lang Yu island
was the first place where first piano came into China. What’s more, it was amazing to see a worker
playing a piano. The sound of the piano
was clear and beautiful.
