Day 8 (March 23rd) : Visit to the Institutions

8th Day

On the eighth day, we went to Fujian (Xiamen) Singapore Friendship Polyclinic. First, we were introduced to meeting room.  According to the director, Fujian Singapore Friendship Polyclinic has built and opened from year of 2011.  The 6-story facility in Xiamen was modeled after Singapore polyclinic infrastructure and facility design.  Also, it was known that the hospital was built from the donations from Singaore business organizations and foundation.

After that, we went to a mall in a Xiamen for lunch. We went to a authentic restaurant within the mall, and ordered fish, dumpling, sticky rice, and a little bit of vegetables.

After lunch, we visitied Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Medical Emergency Center in Xiamen.  Since they were next to each other, we visited them together at the same time.
When we visited CDC, we were introduced to a meeting room.  We heard presentation from the director about CDC in Xiamen and understood their functions and roles within Xiamen community.  Mainly, CDC was in charge of research and surveillance of epidemics and other diseases.  At the time, their top research area was Heart failure and outbreaks such as Zika, MERS, SARS, and Ebola.  They also said they have successfully eradicated SARS for two years.
One of the unique features of China when controlling the epidemics is Government power.  Since Chinese Government is very powerful, they are able to restrict populations from traveling when an epidemic breaks out.  So, they would restrict companies (in the area) from business trips and people from traveling outside the city.  Therefore, it becomes efficient in curing epidemics as it is contained in a city.

After visiting CDC, we visited Medical Emergency Center next door.  We met with director of Medical Emergency Center and we were introduced to their working systems.  They said they had more than 10 doctor and several ambulances ready to head out when the crisis happens.  When they do, it is their policy to send out a doctor along with an ambulance.
